Launched in Spring 2018, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is the new version and name for what was previously known as Dynamics NAV or Navision.

Get the same rich functionality as Dynamics NAV, with full flexibility to deploy in the cloud or on-premises with Business Central, a comprehensive business management solution designed for small to medium-sized businesses.

While Dynamics NAV is no longer available for new customers, there are still a number of versions which are eligible for mainstream support. This means that when changes such as the introduction of GDPR and Making Tax Digital occur, customers can get access to these core updates.

Going forward, Dynamics NAV support from Microsoft will be limited. There are two options available when facing end of support:

Upgrading your ERP

For Dynamics NAV users, the natural upgrade is Dynamics 365 Business Central. Business Central is a business management solution that helps companies connect their financials, sales, service and operations to streamline business processes, improve customer interactions and make better decisions. Although upgrading can be a big change, the benefits of moving to a new up-to-date system are extensive, with new levels of access, intelligence, automation, and integration.

Extending the life of your system

Extending the life of your system can be difficult if your installation includes multiple customisations. Once the system is past extended support it will open your business up to risk and with the evolving nature of businesses, the urge and need to upgrade a new solution will become prominent.

When does Dynamics NAV go out of support?

If you are still operating using Dynamics NAV then it is important that you consider where you are in terms of Microsoft’s support. Support with Microsoft can be broken down into two time periods – mainstream support and extended support, and where you are in your support timeline is dependent on which version of NAV you currently use.
